The bike that got away. August 26, 2007

Posted by kimayars Uncategorized Digg! this story! Digg! this story. , trackback

Jeff is out on a bike ride, and I had the responsibility of bidding on a bike he wanted on eBay.  AND I LOST IT!  I had everything going well — a good bid that was $60 above the lowest bid, and someone outbid me with 10 seconds left. I didn’t have enough time to put in another bid.  *sigh*  My hands are sweaty, I’m exhausted, and I now have the joy of telling Jeff that it was not to be.  He really wanted that bike too…

The bike that got away…

At least he’ll still love me.  At least I hope so…  :-D

Of course I love you. There are other FUSO bikes out there. I’ll keep looking.

Wow, retro! Downtube shifters and “aero” brake levers. Are those tubulars? I’ve decided vintage bikes are like wooden boats. They are best owned by someone else so all you have to do is appreciate the beauty. Whenever I start thinking how much fun it would be to have a classic bike to dote over I’m reminded that there’s a whole stable of race bikes in the garage that need attention. Someday they too will be vintage; sooner rather than later the way technology keeps changing. Come to think of it, all my road bikes are now vintage 9spd ;-)

It’s all there. Top of the line 1987. I don’t have the time or interest to keep a vintage car running, but a bike, I can do that. I’ve been reading Dave Moulton’s blog for a few months now and thought it would be cool to own one of his bikes. I’ve already got my eye on another one. Not as good of shape but still a FUSO. We’ll see. If I get it, then I’ll have to decide if I want to ride it geared or go “Fixed” with it.
