Going Solo November 1, 2007

I ran today by myself for the first time in a long time.  Unfortunately, it was also on the treadmill, which made it nearly excruciating.  I kept hoping to see/hear Sherene’s BFT. (How many chicks do you know drive a Ford F-250 PowerStroke Turbo Diesel?) But alas, the weather was good which means she was enjoying the great outdoors on a crisp fall hike.  I should consider myself lucky that my 4-year-old LOVES going to the KidZone at the gym, but there are some days that I wish I could get out into the more wide-open spaces.

I was very happy with my pace this run. My goal was to get as far as I could before I had to go walk Samantha next door to gymnastics. I think I do need to design another playlist on my Sansa player. It’s getting a little old.  I had to laugh: near the end of the run I have the pleasure of listening to two Alice Cooper songs (”Poison” and “I’m Eighteen”).  “Back in the day” these were hard-core rockin’ tunes.  Now they seem kind of flat and slow. Hmm.

There does always seem to be something weird that happens at the gym. This time a gal gets on the treadmill next to me.  (There are about 10 treadmills on the gym.  Three are taken.  Did she have to pick the one right next to me?)  I’m chuggin’ away at about 4 miles, and she pops right on at 6.5 mph.  She’s cute, toned, and obviously fast.  I’m envious.  Then all of a sudden she jumps off, starts swearing under her breath, and furiously pushes the buttons on her iPod.  After a few moments of this, she hops back on and bumps her speed up to 7.0 mph.  Then, quick as a cat, she’s off again, swearing and fiddling with the iPod.  This keeps hapening until finally I reach mile 5 and now she’s up to 8.5 miles an hour.  I didn’t stay to see how it ended. The whole thing was just bizarre.

Beth and I have planned out our run for Sunday.  We’re going to run our mileage downhill.  Cheating? Probably. Do I feel bad? Absolutely not.  I found myself wishing that the LVHM was next weekend just so it would be over with.  But then I look at the little count-down timer and realize that it’s less than a month away. PANIC!
