SUPERKIM runs a race… November 10, 2007

I am flying high, and I don’t even have my cape on!

Turkey Trot

This morning I ran the 5k Turkey Trot in Carnation.  I decided to try for time, instead of just surviving the run.  I did SO much better than I thought!  My goal was to do it in under 30 minutes, and I flew across the finish line at 28:40!  For an old fart, that’s not bad! I maintained a 9:23/mile average.

I had to laugh: This is the first fun run I’ve done where there were STAIRS.  It’s a steep climb to the railroad grade where part of the race is run, so they fashioned wooden steps to get you up there.  It created a little bit of a bottleneck, but wasn’t too bad.

I got my butt kicked by an 8-year-old, though.  Luckily she’s not in my age category.

I’m super excited to see my results.  I might have finished well in my age division. We’ll have to see. I’ve discovered that the 30-39 year-olds are pretty competitive.  Well, 40 isn’t that far off for me, so maybe I’ll do better in the next age backet up.  :-)

I ran with my fellow EZ8′ers, and overall we had a really good time!  Kudos to Kimbrough for getting us all there!

I’m really enjoying my SUPERKIM high. It will be a shame when it wears off.  ;-)

Tomorrow is supposed to be our long mileage day, but Beth is sick. I’m not sure what I’m going to do.  Hopefully she’ll make a miraculous recovery between now and tomorrow morning.
