Treadmill Love November 20, 2007
Posted by kimayars RunI’ve never been a big treadmill fan, but running with Sherene always makes it enjoyable. Maybe misery loves company?
I had only 45 minutes, so I decided to see how far I could go in that time. I ran the 1st mile at 6.0 mph, the second mile at 6.2 mph, the third mile at 6.4 mph, the fourth mile at 6.6 mph, and then kept cranking the treadmill up until I hit 7.2 mph.
When I run, it usually takes me a little time to get warmed up, then I hit a rhythm. After about 4 or 5 miles, I start to lose my rhythm and then it becomes a battle of pure will. Today I lost that rhythm at about 3 miles. It makes a little concerned, but also makes me a bit more confident that I can push through those difficult runs.
And Sherene is doing amazing!! She is conistently running 5 miles now. If I can just convince her to do the 5k Jingle Bell run…

Ooops! I forgot about that… November 20, 2007
Posted by kimayars RunI totally forgot that I had EZ8 class tonight. It’s not normally our class night, but because of the holiday we moved tomorrow’s class to tonight. The result? My total mileage for the day nearly hit 10 miles. I’m a little stiff right now, and enjoying the warmth of the laptop on my thighs a liiiiiiitle too much.
We ran/walked on the Snoqualmie Valley Trail which is REALLY dark. And there are an obscene about of bunnies on the trail at night. I guess better bunnies than cougars. Or bears. Or rather large bull elk. But we had a great time.
Ugh, I’m so stiff.
Tomorrow Beth and I are going to run for hopefully 5 miles in the morning. Lord help me.

EZ8 Torture… November 19, 2007
Posted by kimayars RunTonight was EZ8 night. We met at Centennial Fields and did the following:
- 0.5 mile jog
- 0.5 mile 1-minute lunge intervals
- 0.5 mile 1-minute stride intervals (short stride/long stride/high knees)
- 0.5 mile 1-minute jog/1-minute sprint
- 0.5 mile brisk run at 9 min/mile
Kimbrough also threw in 42 push-ups and 42 dips to celebrate her 42nd birthday. I’m so glad she’s not 75!
I also got to ride Rasyn this morning which was just so much fun. He had another week off but acted just as if I had ridden him yesterday. It was really nice to take my time with him! Hopefully he’ll be as good at the clinic on Saturday!

A valiant effort - 9 miles November 18, 2007
Posted by kimayars RunBeth and I set out to do our long run today (12 miles) but it was not meant to be. We both didn’t dress warm enough, and even with running we both got chilled very quickly. We also probably overestimated Beth’s recovery from her illness previously in the week. About mile 5 Beth started not feeling so well, so we took it as a sign that we should take it a little easy. We walked/jogged the rest of the way back.
One of the highlights of our run was the two elk herds that crossed our path. We actually had to stop because it became clear that one of the bull elks was not going to let us by until the rest of the herd was out of the way. Each herd was probably about 20 elk. Pretty amazing!

Rasyn goes for a ride… November 17, 2007
Posted by kimayars RamblingsToday has been a day of ups and downs for me:
UP: I took Rasyn on his first ride in our new trailer. Schweet! He was perfect. Walked right in. Stood quietly. Backed out slowly. The only thing that bothered him was the monster-themed umbrella that daughter was waving around. I can cut him some slack there. My confidence level for our outing next Saturday went up dramatically (see below).
DOWN: I can’t park the new trailer for crap. But damn, it looks good.
UP: Tomorrow is my last long distance run before LVHM. While I have grown to become somewhat fond of running (when I started this I couldn’t stand it) I have discovered that I do not enjoy runs longer than an hour. So if I’m going to run another half-marathon again I’m going to have to get REALLY fast.
DOWN: Two weeks until the LVHM. (&$%@$%#!)
UP: I have my first clinic with Rasyn next Saturday. I am really excited to try something new with him and push the boundaries a little bit.
DOWN: I have never done anything like this before. It has the potential to go REALLY badly.
UP: A kind person on this blog reminded me that I haven’t stepped on the scale or took my measurements in nearly a month. I was a little worried to do so — I am still following the “You on a Diet” program but have had a few minor bumps in the road (all of them seem to involve Ben & Jerry’s Cinnamon Buns ice cream either directly or directly). I was happy to see that I’m continuing to lose. I had my annual physcial last week and the doctor was very pleased with my overall health. I’ve lost 20lbs in a year, my blood pressure was 110/62, my resting heartrate was down 20 bmp, and she said that I looked great! I’ve been seeing her for 8 years now, so I guess that says something. And oh yeah: I bought my first size 8 pant in I-don’t-know-how-long. AND I can wear it! Comfortably!
DOWN: There is still some Cinnamon Buns ice cream left in the fridge.
UP: Training for the LVHM is the first training program that I have ever completed. I credit that to Beth, Sherene, Jeff, Liz, Lisa, Brad, and Sweat365. They held me accountable and kept it on the radar screen. I knew exactly what I had to do and when, plus there were friends there to support me. *sniff!*
DOWN: What do I do after the LVHM? There’s no plan. I need to make one. But there are the holdiays… This is a bad time to have to be motivated.
Overally I must say that I’m a little nervous not having the a goal like the LVHM in front of me. I certainly don’t want to go back to my previous fitness level. I do have recurring running dates with Sherene and Beth, and I am enjoying the 5k & 8k fun runs around the area.
So tomorrow, Beth and I head out for our last long-distance run. My next long run with Beth will be under the neon lights of Sin City. (HAH! She’s going to run the Seattle half-marathon next weekend. The fool…)
Be careful what you wish for… November 15, 2007
Posted by kimayars RunTonight was my EZ8 class. Even though I ran this morning on the treadmill, I thought a run outdoors would be nice. I would just take it easy.
I didn’t count on the rain.
Or the gusts of wind.
Or the fact that the trail is flooded.
Or the fact that it’s dark this time of night. Really dark.
I returned home wet, cold, and pretty darn stiff & tired. Can’t say I’ll count this one as a positive experience.

Chuggin’ on the Treadmill…Again. November 15, 2007
Posted by kimayars RunI am SO happy that Sherene is going to the gym with me. She really does make the time on the treadmill fly. Well, maybe “fly” is a bit strong. But I do credit her with helping me keep going. I would not have been able to finish on my own.
My right knee has stated to get a little sore, so I took the time after my run to do my ITB exercises. I realized that not doing them has taken their toll. It was harder than I expected to do the clamshell exercises.

8 MINUTE MILE! November 15, 2007
Posted by kimayars RunI went to the gym today for a treadmill tryst with Sherene. After 4 miles, I got a bit cocky…
I cranked that treadmill up to 7.5 mph and ran an 8-minute mile for 1.1 miles (I wanted to make SURE that I could sustain it for a mile.) Yeah!
SUPERKIM!
