Is it snow? Or something more sinister… January 29, 2008
Posted by kimayars RamblingsMy fears this morning were realized: The snow has not only started to melt, but it’s raining too. Yet, there’s too much of it for it to disappear quickly. The result? Slush that has the density of lead and the water absorption power of one of those wonder chamios you see on TV (and ONLY see on TV at that).
We have a three-car garage. LOVE the three-car garage. It’s more like a two-car + lots of crap garage. HATE the three-car garage driveway. Especially when there is “wonder slush”.
So my cardio/strength workout today was shoveling two-thirds of the driveway (the Porsche doesn’t make it out much in weather like this so why bother?). Took me an hour, and I forgot to switch sides while shoveling. I fear my right obliques will be a little more tender tomorrow than my left.
I also discovered that I must have clinched my butt a lot when I walked/skated with Beth on Sunday. I’m pretty sore through my core and my ass.
My reward for my efforts today was that Jeff took the van to work. The van is inside the garage. The Excursion (which is what he left me with) is outside the garage. It’s raining. I have two kids to load in a few hours. Additionally I need to clean out the truck so the kids can ride in it. (It’s still fully loaded from an event that I volunteered for this past weekend.) The Excursion was fine for him to take yesterday, but for some reason it’s “safer” for me to have the Excursion today. Oh well, I’m probably just crabby.
So no gym again today, no pony, and I’m going to weight myself (egads). It can only get better, right?
I must confess that I have finally investigated something that I heard about a while ago but never checked out. Karl told Liz about Google Reader I’m guessing about 6 months ago. While I love the new Sweat365 layout and improvements that have been made, I feel I have lost touch with the blogs that I used to read regularly because I would access them from features within the Konamoxt Sweat365 home page that are no longer there. Enter Google Reader. I’ve been using it for a few days now and I love it! I feel like I see the dialog across the blogs that I enjoyed in the Fall. Very cool.
I’m off to go step on the scale. I think my heartrate just went up.

1) I’ve seen that 2 car + a bunch of crap garage… you’re right… that’s a bunch of crap… But as I recall it’s pretty well organized.
2) I’m glad you’ve found google reader. But I also hope you take a second to visit some of the new blogs and cheer people on. Many of them are just like you 6 months ago… planning to run their first half marathon… never before blogged. If they saw your story I’m sure they’d be inspired.
Hey, I think your garage and our garage are twins. Except there are no cars in ours right now. The woodworking tools and to-be-installed insulation are living there right now.
I’m going to check out google reader, too. As much as I’d love to try to keep up with everyone joining and encourage them, it just isn’t realistic. Seems like 100s are signing up everyday, which is great!
I don’t have a garage, but I do have a whole bunch of crap, which is made worse by the fact that we’re decorating almost the entire house. It just shifts from room to room to room. When Wife’s not looking though, I do sometimes manage to take some to the dump. Let that be our little secret.
Karl…one man’s trash is another woman’s treasure?
Hehehe… I’ve been using Google Reader for a few months now, too. Even with the RSS support added to Apple Mail in Leopard, I still like GReader better since I can access it at home, work, or wherever. Google even has a nice slimmed down interface for use on my iPhone!
I also like the Shared Items feature. Slap some code in your blog sidebar, and you can easily share other blog entries with the people reading your blog. Just click on the “Share” button below each post. (Scroll down the sidebar on my blog, and you can see my shared entries just above my Bogroll.)
Enjoy!
Ah Steve! I’m glad to see you haven’t changed a bit!!
So to respond to Brad, here is the problem I’m having: I’m having a problem finding those people you mention. I would love to meet them, share stories, and know that I’m not alone in many of the things I do. But, for example, right now on the home page 5 of the 10 latest posts are “Hi, I just joined the Sweat365 Community” (which I usually don’t read because it’s the generic default post when someone joins) and one post is mine. That gives me 4 posts to puruse, and 2 of them I already have read (thanks to Google Reader!). Does that make sense? It doesn’t seem worth my time to use that page as my portal anymore. Maybe I just need to get acclimated to a new enviroment… I am a tad resistent to change.
Kim, if you read those posts, those are actual people who want to run half marathons… Did you read the posts?
Here are some examples of people you might find interesting… but you’ll have to say hi to them if you want to meet them…

http://brohossy.sweat365.com/

These are just a few of the women who joined since this morning and are either preparing to run their first half marathon, or have run a half marathon in the past and are trying to improve their times in another half marathon.
Maybe you’re not interested in meeting new people. That’s ok too. Or maybe you are interested, and looked at these blogs already, and didn’t find the information useful enough to start a conversation. Or maybe you only looked at the home page, and didn’t click on the new blogs or the “next” page of recent comments.
Please let us know what you tried and what you didn’t like… I’d like to see this feature as a way for you to meet new people if you want to. So if there’s a way to make it better, I’m eager to look for solutions.
