And yet again I was reminded why I run with Beth.

At 7:00am I called her to confirm our running date this morning.  I had already been out to feed the horses so I was acutely aware of the air temperature.

“It’s 30 degrees. Don’t you think it’s too cold to run?”
Beth replied, “No.”
“Are you sure?”
“Uh huh.” Beth giggled.

When I heard the giggle I quickly realized that I was not going to get out of this one.  We both missed our runs. We were going to do this, even if it meant the local authorities woudl find our bodies frozen to the sidewalk (hopefully just outside of Huxdotter Coffee).

It turned out to be a run of I-push-you-and-you-push-me. We kept upping the ante until we got to 5 miles.  It was euphoric (almost) to feel like we got a good run in, but also a tad depressing because it was hard.  It seemed not so long ago an 8 or 9-mile run felt this way and the 5-milers were easy.  Well, it gives us a goal.

So without Beth, I would never have pushed myself that far.  It’s a good thing.

Another high point is that I weighed myself, and the scale topped out at 143.8 lbs.  I’m VERY happy as I was sure I was back up into the 150 lbs range again.  The downside is that my waist and hips have gone up, which means that my muscle is converting to fat.  Oh well, another goal. I’m sure laying off the hot fudge would help that out a lot. (Pretzels dipped in hot fudge is one of my favorite treats. The pretzels are simply a hot fudge delivery mechanism).
