This is an EXPENSIVE hobby. May 12, 2008

Instead of having a lesson today, I ended up heading to our local tack store with Sherene to purchase a new girth.  I ordered one last night through SmartPak Equine (a Collegiate contoured girth) but realized today that if I want to ride this week I need one now.  At the tack store, I found the Collegiate girth. Luckily I brought my saddle to try it out with.  That was a smart move — the Collegiate girth didn’t fit.  The billets were too big and didn’t slide through the roller buckles. Hmmm…

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) I found and fell in love with a Schumacher countoured girth.  It’s soft, well-made, elastic, and EXPENSIVE:

I rationalized it by noting I hadn’t bought a new girth in 5 years. If I can get another 5 years out of this one, then it would be worth it.  I hope Tigger likes it.  :-)

Sometimes for me a girth can be a tricky buy..will it rub will it chaff the armpit of my horse? As I spent 3000 dollars on the last saddle I bought…yes tack can be super expensive (no I did not really have money for it, but also rationalized that…’hopefully it is the last saddle I will ever buy” hmmm so far so good :) our horses are our babies! Got to take extra special care right?
