Chiropractor saves the day! May 14, 2008
Posted by kimayars RunI finally saw the chiro today for my neck. I am SO glad I did that! Things are much better. I now only have a little muscle soreness and have regained full range of motion. Ahhhh…
I missed Beth this morning so I squeezed in a short run later in the day. Did Level 3 on the 5k trainer.
I also worked Tigger in-hand today (it was a busy day!). I went back to our “one step at a time” exercise. Tigs doesn’t seem to enjoy doing anything slow. He’s not quick and agile like his buddy Shazam, but he has a fair amount of energy and a large ground-covering stride. You can imagine his frustration when I ask him to do things slowly and controlled.
So imagine, if you will, Tigger bridled up but with no saddle. The reins are over his neck, and I’m walking next to him with one hand on the inside rein and the other hand on the outside rein which is draped over his withers. Then we take one…step…at…a…time, making sure the back leg engages first and he stays soft. I swear, you’d think his head was going to explode. It’s a simple exercise, but I think quite powerful. I do always have to break it up with some lunging so he can stretch out otherwise he get’s a little too balled up. He was much better at it today than previously, so we are definitely making progress. The goal of this exercise is to show him that he doesn’t always have to rush. After we get it established on the ground I’ll introduce it under saddle. At least, that’s the plan.
