Stick a fork in me… May 18, 2008

Posted by kimayars Run Digg! this story! Digg! this story. , trackback

This morning Beth convinced me to go for a run with her friend Mario.  Mario lives up on Snoqualmie Ridge and was described as someone who enjoys running distance, but is somewhat out of shape.  I have discovered that these things are relative.

Mario’s description of being “out of shape” means that instead of 6-minute miles, he runs 8-minute miles.  And his distance running is of the marathon-kind.

I don’t think I will ever do this again.

About mile 5 I realized that I was no longer able to recover on the flats.  The trail was mostly rolling hills with two rather large hills (one was a mile long).  I loved the footing (packed hogsfuel), the weather was perfect (70 degrees), but it was just too long and too far too soon.  I was dropped several times.  I was struggling. Stick a fork in me, I’m done.

There were only really two good points to this run: I finished, and I didn’t gag.  They seem to be pretty minor accomplishments, especially considering I had to get back to the car.  Finishing really wasn’t an option.

Hopefully my ride on Tigger will be a bit better.  :-)

bet that ride was hard after such a run.
i had a similar experience today but at least i’ve got some recent long mileage under my belt.
good job! (assuming you haven’t injured yourself)

See stories like that are why I run by myself! You are so lucky that you have Beth, because I can’t seem to find a running buddy who is at the same tempo as me and that also doesn’t get injured! Good for you for trying though, that’s great. Can’t wait to hear how your ride went afterwards ;)
