I was REALLY hoping to have written about at least 7 more runs since my last post, but bad luck seems to reign supreme.  The next day after my run (January 2nd) I started feeling crappy, and quickly developed a 101-degree fever and tonsils the size of golf balls.  That lasted a few days, then morphed into the crappiest head cold I’ve had in years.  I mean, this is the kind where you just lay on the couch because there’s so much fluid in your head you can not imagine your neck being able to support it.  Finally, my head cleared but only to make it’s final transition into bronchitis.  I must say, sounding like Kathleen Turner isn’t all that bad.  The continuous coughing I could do without, though.

I did go to the doctor (and no, it’s not H1N1) but it is a virus so I need to wait it out.  He did give me an inhaler to help the bronchial spams and phenegren with codeine to help me sleep at night, but other than that it’s lots of tea and lots of rest.

But I am just so bummed that I can’t run.  Sherene and I are ready to start training for our upcoming half marathon in May, but I can barely carry on a complete sentence without having a big coughing fit.  I guess the good news is that I am all caught up on Oprah…

I am at my parents’ house right now, but optimistically brought my running clothes.  It’s raining, it’s windy, and I’m tired, but it seemed like the right thing to do to set the tone for this year.  So I grabbed Scout and we went on a short but symbolic run for the upcoming year.  Happy 2010!
