About Tiago
Tiago is my 7-year-old Quarter Horse/Andalusian. Or, he could be 10-years old which is what the vet suggested, and he might not have any Andalusian in him at all. I do see what I think is a lot of Morgan in him. But, he’s basically a Heinz 57 in the equine world. I don’t know much about him, really. Regardless, he’s my special little man.
His name when I bought him was “Scout”. When my friend described him as “dark brown and sweet” we jokingly started referring to him as “The Raisin”. It kind of stuck for a while, but I needed a more dignified name for him. He has a very Tigger-like personality, which led me to the name Tiago. It seems to suit him well! And hey, it only took 6 months…
He’s a bit of a goof, and loves to play. He’s also quite athletic and has taken me for a few “rides”. But he has an amazing work ethic, three lovely gaits, and I try and see him every chance I get. He is something fabulous.
He’s a dark bay with a small white star on his forehead and two white anklets on his back legs. I bought him on June 5th, 2007 and I hope to go to 2nd Level dressage schooling shows with him. On our spare time we hit the trails!!

Kim, this is great. I haven’t been on a horse for years, but in my youth I did anything to be near horses. We didn’t have the money for me to keep my own horse, so I got a job mucking stalls, running fence wires, and prepping “the rich girls” horses for them to show. I also was a “ribbon girl” at the farm where Christopher Reeves broke his neck (this happened years after I had grown up & moved away). At this same farm, I got to meet THE Black Stallion, who like most male movie stars, was tiny in person. But, he was an absolute doll. I wanted to steel him and hide him in our sheep barn. Eventually, an older couple at our church asked me to exercise their horses & show their young quarterhorse, whom they’d named “Coon”. Now, living in Virginia, naming anything “Coon” just isn’t right. I was young & naive, so I didn’t think anything of it. I just loved spending time with him. Showing him was just a part of being around him. Enjoy Scout..or Toby…or Raisin…or whoever he becomes!
Hi Kim,
L ove your blog, I think we were seperated at birth, we are the same height, weight –2 kids and love Dressage..and have a good sense of humor! Karen
Hello All,
I always try to remember that our horses, or love for them are instrumental in our over all health - mentally, physically and spiritually. God be with you all.
Hurray! Tigger has a webpage! But you didn’t mention how manjestic he is!
I just read this description of your horse and had to comment (I know, clearly this has been up a while) that a QH/Andalusian is NOT a Heinz 57! *LOVE* your breeding! Your horse is a very specific mix called an Azteca. A very proud breed indeed! My daughter rode an Azteca for several years in dressage and she was the best horse ever. They have all the Andalusian flash if you have the know how and the level headedness of a QH. I love them!
