A night with EZ8… November 5, 2007
Posted by kimayars General CardioHmmm… I’m not sure what happened tonight, but overall I was a little disappointed with my EZ8 class. We walked haf-a-mile to warm up, then ran half-a-mile relay-style: The person in front has a baton, then the person in back runs up to take the front and the baton. I think the idea is that you gradually start pushing each other to be faster. The only problem is that there is only 3 of us, and one person keeps asking us to slow down. “No worries,” I thought, “I’ll push it when we run on our own.” Well, next we did a half-a-mile alternating one minute walk/one minute lunge. Finally, we each got our own medicine ball (Wilson!) and did arms and core for half-a-mile.
I left cold and feeling oddly like I didn’t get what I came for. I wanted to be tired, to know that I did what I could to get to that 8-minute mile. I just didn’t feel like I made any progress toward it.
Today was an odd day. My oldest is home with a fever, so for the first time in a VERY long time, I spent the day at home. It was kind of nice. I got caught up on laundry, fixed us both a nice non-rushed lunch, and just puttered. It felt good to putter. Puttering is nice. Putt-putt-putt…
It’s also pretty sad that it takes her being sick for us to spend the day together. She’s so fun to talk to, I don’t do it nearly as much as I should. We had some great conversations today. I think she had a good time too (relatively speaking, she does feel like crap).
It made me realize that I really need to slow down. Now realizing and doing are two different things. But hey, the first step of any 12-step problem is admitting you have a problem. I basically have no spare time for anything. Veronica went to bed with a 103+ degree fever tonight, so tomorrow will be another stay-home day. I’m kind of looking forward to it, although I do hope she feels better. It’s hard to watch your kids feel bad. And if she’s still running a fever tomorrow then we’re going to head to the doctor.

Reaching for that 8-minute mile… October 22, 2007
Posted by kimayars General Cardio, Las Vegas Half Marathon, RunI went to my EZ8 Running class tonight and had a great time. There’s something fun about working out with a great group of people. Kimbrough, our coach, has an infectious enthusiasm that makes it fun. She reminded me that the 12th annual Pumpkin Push is this Saturday. I’m kind of tempted. So tempted, that in the few minutes it took me to think about it, I registered. So I guess I’m doing a 5K on Saturday morning… Jeff’s going with me, and is going to take the kids on the 2.5 mile family walk. I think it will be lots of fun. Evidently, everyone leaves with their very own pumpkin… Good heavens, I hope I don’t have to run with it. Anyone want to join us?
Today was an odd day. School was cancelled for Veronica because our bus fleet was vandalized last night. (Bastards.) But I have to admit hangin’ with Veronica was fun. She was patient while I watched Sherene ground drive her horse (which was really impressive), and she was very helpful when we went grocery shopping. (”Mommy, I think you’re missing something — chocolate.”) She was a bit confused when we had to go rescue Jeff after he broke his rear derailer/derailleur. (I asked Jeff how to spell that. “Isn’t there a French spelling?” I asked. “Yes,” he says, “but I don’t use it.”) Hopefully, there will be school tomorrow, but tonight Veronica was complaining of a sore throat and felt a bit warm. It may be another stay home day again.
I find myself fantasizing about another fun treadmill liaison with Sherene tomorrow. Dare I hope?…
