Run with Beth! Finally! June 26, 2008

Beth and I finally connected and went for a long overdue run this morning.  It was a tough 4.6 miles, and I’m so glad she was there. The body is a little creaky today and she kept me running the entire way.

I met Kristi to walk this morning at the gym and decided to do something more productive.  I put some effort into the treadmill and started with 10 minutes doing the “reverse x-train” at level 5.  THOSE are some muscles I don’t use regularly.

I finished up with the 5k trainer option on the treadmill at 10min/mile.  I definitely have a little less energy at 6am than at 10am when I run with Sherene. Overall it felt good, but I was a tad pooped afterwards.

Well, I thought things were coming together… :-)

Pretty much nothing has happened since the 4th. AND, I’m a little nervous about today as I will be getting on my horse for the first time in 3 weeks. Hopefully it won’t be TOO much of a rodeo.

Missed a run yesterday, so I snuck one in while my friend Kristi walked. Just a short one, but it helped work out some of the kinks. My neck/shoulder is still acting up.

More later on my ride!

Today was a good day.  Small progress was made in all areas…

I ran intervals with Sherene today. I was able to hold 2 min jog/2 min run the whole entire way. I had originally set the time for 45min, but then noticed that it would end in the middle of a run segment. So, I uppped the time to 46min (I also wanted to see if that last full run interval would get me under 10-minute miles).  Unfortunately, my hand caught the emergency stop switch and we came grinding to a halt.  My cries of disappointment must have been fairly loud - a few people around me offered condolences.  I did have a “duh” moment that you can not switch directions on a treadmill while still waking forward.  It kind of spits you out the back of the treadmill like a watermellon seed.

I scheduled time to ride with Sherene tomorrow.  We’re meeting at 9am.  My plan is help Sherene with the barn work while ponies get some ya-ya’s out, then groom, tack, and be on the horse by 10:30. Sounds reasonable.  My goal is two rides before my lesson on Monday.

I’ve made some good choices with food today.  On the whole I feel pretty good.

Alleve put a dent in my shoulder/neck pain.  It’s still there, but I can forget about it at times.  It was really annoying while running today, but after I took the Alleve it calmed down to a dull roar.  I’ll be taking 1 Alleve every 12 hours and see if that helps things until I can get back in to see the chiro.

Iron Horse Trail with Sherene June 1, 2008

I had a great run with Sherene this morning.  I would even dare to say awesome, but it’s exercise so it can’t be THAT fun, can it?  :-)

We started at Rattlesnake Lake and ran out the Iron Horse Trail.  We did an impressive, and I say impressive because the first half was all uphill, 5 miles.  We ran 2 miles out, walked another 0.5 miles, then headed back and ran the full 2.5 miles back.  Our total elevation gain was 250ft.  It seemed like way more, but when you’re doing it over the course of 2.5 miles it does tend to wear on you.

What was really cool were our splits:

And, as usual with running in this area, it was gorgeous.  Everything was green with a light mist hanging over everything.  Absolutely fantastic.
