Dang Neck May 13, 2008
Posted by kimayars WalkI slept on my neck wrong this Saturday while cuddling with my 4-year-old. (For those of you with kids, you know the scene: Super cute child falls asleep on you while you’re in a position that becomes very uncomfortable. Yet, you don’t dare move for fear of waking super cute child. Your last thought as you doze off is, “This is gonna hurt when I wake up.”
This morning is definitely the worst. I can’t get my neck muscle to relax. I can barely get my hair in a pony tail (I can’t look down) and my shoulders feel like they’re in my ears. I went for my morning walk with Kristi hoping it would help loosen things up some, but there really isn’t a noticeable difference. I think I’ll try and go to the back-cracker, er I mean, Chiropractor today. The heat I’ve been using on it doesn’t seem to help, except to ease the aching.
I think it’s also time to break out my good old friend Advil too. Gotta love Advil.

Walkabout (or walk-in-place?) May 12, 2008
Posted by kimayars WalkHad my little walk with Kristi this morning. Did hill level 8 on the treadmill. I have been able to successfully avoid the eliptical-head-basher-thingies for a while now.

Working Out the Kinks May 9, 2008
Posted by kimayars WalkI’m beginning to enjoy these walks with Kristi in the morning, especially after a hard day like yesterday. It really helps me get the stiffness from the day before out. I did the hill program at level 7.
I am noticing some interesting “heat” in my right shin (I’m such a horse nerd, I wanted to say “cannon” at first). It literally gets warm (even to the touch) just to the left of my shin bone about 3/4 of the way up. I started some cold compresses and my “Just-Say-No-To-Shin-Splints” exercises. We’ll see if it nips that one in the bud. No tenderness, which is good.
It’s going to be gorgeous tomorrow– I hope I can get to the barn to torment the pony before the rain comes.

This is becoming a nice habit… May 6, 2008
Posted by kimayars WalkWalked with Kristi this morning:
- 15 minutes on the eliptical (reverse x-train)
- 30 minutes on the treadmill, Level 8 hill workout at 3.0 mph
This time I used a machine without moving arm thingies. MUCH safer!

I have triumphed. April 29, 2008
Posted by kimayars Run, WalkThere’s a saying I love: “Age and treachery will triumph over youth and skill.”
Today’s variation on that is: “Age and treachery will kill the elliptical machine.”
I really don’t know what I did to it, but it wasn’t working by the time I was done.
So, 10-ish minutes on the elliptical and then a nice easy walk with Kristi on the treadmill. I still have the massive headache from yesterday, so I will be focusing on getting some more fluids in me.
I’m also hoping to spend some time today to actually tailor my workouts to be more complementary with my riding. Maybe I’ll get some time to peruse the Applied Posture Riding book I bought last week.
